WHO WE ARE
We are a humanitarian nonprofit organization 501(c)3 assisting refugees worldwide. Assistance is provided to local organizations that HVHR, Inc. has met with at the locations/camps where the refugees live temporarily. The main goals are to feed, house, and care for refugees while outside their country and to assist them in getting back home. Your donations are sent to places and people we have met with and that can be trusted with your donations. Our focus country in 2023 is Ukraine.
The width of Ukraine is eqvivalent to New York to Chicago, about 810 miles/1,300 km
how it all started and the thoughts behind the actions:
Already at the end of February 2022, a few days after the Russian invasion, donations started to come in as I announced on social media my intentions about the trip to Poland/Germany to find out how to help the thousands of refugees flooding the neighboring counties to the west.
By the end of 2022 more than $40,000 was donated and distributed.
Thank you donors!! So much to do, LET'S KEEP GOING!!! Please scroll down to donate.
The reasons behind my actions are my upbringing during times of communist oppression. Born in Denmark in 1945 I remember the uprisings in East Germany 1953 (50 miles away), Hungary 1956, and Czechoslovakia 1968 (in the Danish Air Force). (Auth. BJ Mikkelsen)
the five organizations we support.
1:
The Ukrainian Church in Berlin through the Hilfe-Berlin organization. A fleet of vans and trucks drive into Ukraine every day with food, medicine, and supplies to help Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) and doctors.
Worked with them at a visit there Mar 4-5, 2022 when approx 5,500 refugees arrived daily into Berlin by train.
2:Rotary Int'l., Warsaw, Poland.
With more than 400 refugees under their care the volunteers distribute food and supplies whereever refugees (primarily mothers with children) have been housed in the greater Warsaw area. I attended their monthly meeting in Nov 2022.
3:Community Self Help, Lviv, Ukraine.
Hudson Valley Helps Refugees is very proud of being affiliated with this organization. During my visit to Lviv in Oct 2022 I met with the founder, Vitalii Kharechko and Dr. Michael Radigan (American), Communication Dept. to discuss how to aid them in their work helping thousands of Ukrainians that have fled their homes. Medical humanitarian aid, Refugee support, Fighting Russian misinformation are their main daily tasks.
Founded in 2014 when Russia annexed Crimea.
4:Rotary Int'l., Helmstedt, Germany. With more than 300 refugees under their care the volunteers distribute food and supplies whereever refugees (primarily mothers with children) have been housed in the greater Helmstedt area. I met the Club president, wife and volunteers at the Main Train Station in Berlin in March, 2022.
5:The Military Hospital & Clinic,
Lychakivska St, 107, Lviv, Ukraine.
A facility that is in dire need of ambulances and a much needed upgrade of the dental clinic. Met with Colonel Lytvyn, MD in Oct 2022 in Lviv together with his staff. Wounded soldiers are now transported across Ukraine (15 hour drive) as the hospitals throughout Ukraine are full.
Our efforts
The Rotary clubs in Helmstedt, Germany and Warsaw, Poland have taken in hundreds of refugees and Hudson Valley Helps Refugees is supporting them in their efforts to feed and house refugees in temporary housing and in members' homes. Pictures above and on the right are from the main train station in Berlin, March 4 - 5, 2022.
Colonel Lytvyn, MD and staff with the founder of "HV Helps Refugees" during the visit to Ukraine Oct '22. Please donate to add more ambulances to his hospital
May we see a free and peaceful ukraine again soon.
